BinHQ — Warehouse Fulfillment for Shopify Merchants
From paper pick lists and one-order-at-a-time picking to bin-optimized, scan-verified batch fulfillment — delivered as a Shopify app
Context
Shopify gives merchants a great storefront and checkout — but the moment an order moves from "paid" to "pack and ship," the native toolset runs out. Most small-to-mid-size Shopify merchants handling fulfillment in-house end up running their warehouse on paper pick lists, mental maps of where products live, and one-order-at-a-time picking. As order volume grows, walking time compounds, mispicks multiply, and fulfillment cost climbs in direct proportion to sales — exactly the opposite of how a scalable operation should behave.
Shopify's toolset ends when the order is paid — once the box has to leave the warehouse, merchants fall back to paper pick lists and guesswork. BinHQ fills that gap without replacing anything.
We built BinHQ as a Shopify app published on the Shopify App Store to solve this piece of the operation specifically. It installs into the merchant's Shopify admin, adds a bin-location warehouse layer on top of their existing catalog and orders, and turns order-by-order fulfillment into batched, walk-path-optimized, scan-verified picking — without asking the merchant to swap out Shopify, learn a new commerce platform, or stand up enterprise WMS software priced for a different kind of business.
Challenges
- In-house fulfillment teams had no system of record for where products physically live. New hires spent days learning the warehouse, and even experienced staff wasted time hunting for SKUs — a cost that compounded with every new order.
- Orders were picked one at a time. A picker would walk the floor for order #1, return, then repeat the same route for order #2 against the same shelves — turning what should be a single batched walk into dozens of redundant trips per day.
- Without barcode verification, picking relied on the human eye matching product against pick list. Mispicks landed in packed boxes, triggering customer complaints, return shipping, and replacement orders — each one eating directly into thin e-commerce margins.
- Existing warehouse management software assumed enterprise-scale operations: dedicated WMS servers, complex data imports, and pricing starting in the hundreds of dollars per month. That math doesn't work for a small Shopify merchant just starting to feel fulfillment pain.
- Any tool introduced had to fit inside the existing Shopify workflow — pulling live orders, syncing SKUs, pushing fulfillment status and tracking back to Shopify — without forcing the merchant to juggle yet another disconnected system alongside their store.
Solution
We built BinHQ as a Shopify app — installed from the Shopify App Store in minutes, connected to the merchant's existing catalog and orders automatically, with no separate infrastructure to manage.
Bin Locations & Warehouse Mapping
Merchants map their physical warehouse — aisles, racks, shelves, bins — and assign every SKU a home. The picker always knows exactly where to find a product, new hires get productive in hours instead of days, and every pick list comes pre-sorted by physical walking path rather than arbitrary order sequence.
Consolidated Pick Lists & Batching
Instead of processing orders one at a time, BinHQ consolidates a batch of orders into a single walking route — grouped by bin location and optimized for minimum steps. One walk through the warehouse fulfills many orders at once, cutting picking time by an order of magnitude as volume grows.
Mobile Picker Interface with Barcode Scanning
Pickers work from a browser-based, PIN-protected interface on any phone or tablet — no app to install, no device management to run. Every pick is verified by scanning the product barcode against the expected SKU, so mispicks are caught at the shelf instead of at the customer's doorstep.
One-Click Batch Fulfillment
When a batch is picked and packed, one action marks the orders fulfilled in Shopify, generates shipping labels, and fires customer notifications with tracking — closing the loop end-to-end without the merchant ever leaving BinHQ.
Installed from the Shopify App Store in minutes — no separate WMS, no enterprise pricing, no workflow to rebuild. Batched, bin-optimized, scan-verified picking sitting directly on top of the merchant's existing Shopify operation.
Results
Batched pick lists with optimized walking paths replace order-by-order picking — one walk through the warehouse fulfills many orders at once.
Barcode scanning verifies every pick at the shelf — mispicks caught before the box is packed, not after the customer complains.
Consolidated routes and bin-location lookups cut the time pickers spend walking and searching — hours back per day per operation.
A free tier covers one warehouse and 50 orders per month — merchants adopt the full workflow before paying, then scale up as volume grows.
A single action fulfills the batch in Shopify, generates labels, and triggers customer tracking notifications — no context switching between systems.
